Nuclear
Explored the role for new nuclear in a UK low carbon energy system.
What we have done
Projects
SMR Deployment Enablers
This project will provide a greater understanding of the necessary actions required over the next five years if a first of a kind small modular reactor plant is to be in operation in the UK by 2030.
Natural Hazards
This project developed a framework and best practice approach to characterise natural hazards and seek to improve methodologies where current approaches are inefficient.
Power Plant Siting Study
This project explored the different opportunities and constraints involved in developing sites in England and Wales for new low carbon power plants.
Alternative small-scale thermal and nuclear power generation technologies
The purpose of the project was to capture the high level technical performance characteristics and business-case parameters of small thermal plants, which were of value to the potential future of the UK’s energy system.
Nuclear Cost Drivers
The project identified and analysed historic, contemporary and future nuclear power projects to identify areas of nuclear power plant design, construction and operation to deliver potential cost reductions
