The Energy Technologies Institute (ETI) has expanded its Smart Systems and Heat (SSH) team with the recruitment of four technical specialists.
The SSH programme is focused on developing systems that deliver efficient heat and comfort to meet local requirements across the UK. The projected £100m programme was launched last year by Prime Minister, David Cameron.
Joining the team based in Birmingham are:
- Kim Stansfield as Quality Function Deployment (QFD) Practitioner,
- Stuart McKinnon as Technologies Development Engineer,
- Warwick Brown as Information Control Technology (ICT) Analyst and
- Danny Spence as Technical Publishing Manager.
Kim’s role is to ensure that consumer and stakeholder priority requirements are integrated into the heart of any system and service final design as well as innovation developments. He has held roles in programme management, technology management and business transformation at Lucas, LucasVarity, TRW, Northrop Grumman, CSC and has run his own businesses in cloud service design and internet marketing.
Stuart’s role is to identify, evaluate, and develop an in-depth understanding of the technologies suitable for the programme and to pursue innovation opportunities. He previously led the mechanical engineering team at Circadian Solar, a start-up company who developed a concentrated photovoltaic power generation system.
Warwick’s role is to develop ICT systems to support the domestic and the small business environment, encompassing home heating and hot water management. He will also look at the potential for a smart distribution hub cloud service, where consumer data can be analysed and collected for a large number of homes. A graduate of UMIST in Electrical and Electronic Engineering with a CEng and MIET, Warwick has worked predominantly in the telecommunications sector as a hardware design engineer.
Danny’s role will be to manage and develop instructional content to support all levels of the SSH programme. He has worked in the technical communications sector for almost 25 years. He joins from Motorola Mobility where he was a consumer education content development manager.
