ETI collaborates with local authorities to develop future-proof and economic local energy systems for the UK
• Workshop to explore provision of efficient heat and comfort to homes and businesses
• ETI working with 11 local authorities to shape thinking
• Next workshop to be held in Spring 2014
Delegates from local authorities across the UK have participated in an inaugural workshop to discuss the next steps in the creation of future-proof and economical energy solutions for homes and businesses across the UK. The discussion was centred on the ETI’s EnergyPath software tool, currently under development.
Representatives met in Birmingham in January to discuss a range of opportunities and challenges that will need to be addressed as the UK examines the way it delivers heat to its communities over the next decade and beyond.
The ETI is currently working with a number of local authorities including Aberdeen, Bridgend, Cornwall, Greater London Authority (including Camden, Haringey and Islington), Hull, Isle of Wight, Leeds, Leicester, Greater Manchester, Newcastle and Sheffield.
Dr Grant Bourhill, Director Smart Systems and Heat at the ETI said,: “Feedback from local authorities has been extremely positive. We see a proactive interaction with local authorities as a vital element in the development and use of the EnergyPathTM tool which will support decision-making in prioritising and planning local energy solutions. Local Authorities are key partners to help us design future-proof and economic local energy systems that provide efficient heat and comfort to residents whilst addressing UK energy challenges and targets.”
The workshop identified critical areas for prioritisation over the coming months. The next Local Authority workshop with ETI is planned for Spring 2014.
